Arts + Health Weekender

Weston-super-Mare

Friday 3 - Sunday 5 April 2020

Co-produced by The Arts and Culture Programme, University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust and Culture Weston.

UPDATE: The Weston Arts + Health Weekender (3–5 April 2020)

In light of the current COVID-19 guidance, we can confirm we have postponed all live events in the Weston Arts and Health Weekender. This festival was planned to launch Culture Weston and the merger of University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust (UHBT) with Weston Area Health NHS Trust (WAHT)  over the weekend of 3 – 5 April. The merger of the NHS Trusts will proceed subject to regulatory approvals and Culture Weston will begin operations, but celebrations will necessarily be delayed.

Everyone’s health and safety is our number one concern. We are doubly aware of the impact of social isolation and reduced human contact on wellbeing. So we are looking at creative solutions to bring a flavour of the festival to you online, starting with a Creative Conversation which is taking place on the afternoon of April 3rd.

We will then use our contacts and expertise in Arts and Health to collate and share creative activities and resources for isolated and older people. We will support our partners and practitioners to contribute digitally and online.  This free online resource bank for agencies and professionals working with older and isolated people will ensure a valuable legacy of work and uphold our aims to establish Weston-super-Mare as a national centre for arts & health best practice, based on our ongoing partnership between the NHS Hospital Trusts, North Somerset Council, Arts Council England and Culture Weston.

The live, public elements of the Weekender, including the formal launch of Culture Weston, will be re-scheduled to the Autumn, when we hope there will be a clearer picture about the way forward.

Thank you to everyone involved for all your support so far. Together, we will continue to find creative ways to keep sharing and communicating and come out the other side with a renewed sense of community and purpose.

Welcome to…

The Weston Arts +
Health Weekender!

This inaugural festival celebrates wholeness and togetherness; the anticipated joining of two hospital Trusts to form University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust on 1st April, and the launch of Culture Weston, a new initiative that develops, supports and promotes cultural and heritage-based activity as a vital part of the town’s life and growth.

At a time of new beginnings and new partnerships across placemaking, the arts and healthcare, we look back at Weston’s truly super history as a health resort, celebrate the many and varied opportunities to get creative that are on offer now, and look forward to establishing Weston as a beacon for Arts and Health in the future.

This is a whole community collaboration. Creative workshops, walks and talks, performances, music, medical seminars, hospital based arts activities and much more, magically mingle across the town to create a unique programme with something for everyone.

The arts are good for you, it’s official. So go on, dip your toe in waters new this weekend, and feel wonderfully refreshed!
