Pedal Power to the People!

North Somerset Council is bringing pedal power to staff and residents in the area with a number of schemes aimed at keeping active and encouraging sustainable modes of transport.

Free bikes are on offer for public loan for a 2-4 week period through the Borrow a Bike scheme. Individuals can hop on an e-bike, hybrid or folding bike from the Bicycle Chain in Weston-super-Mare by applying at https://betterbybike.info/start-cycling/get-a-bike/loanbikes

For businesses, electric bikes are available for workers to loan for six months enabling them to cycle to meetings or appointments, to use during lunch breaks or for staff members to try commuting by bike.

To increase cycle confidence, individuals can apply for free 1-2-1 adult cycle training at Travel.roadshow@westofengland.org, and free bike servicing at the workplace is offered by Dr Bike.

As people start to return to work, a number of Active Travel Challenges will be introduced, including a commuter challenge in October, inviting people to leave their cars at home and where possible walk or cycle to work.

Businesses are also eligible for a free, fully funded membership to Join My Journey, a travel sharing platform enabling staff to hook up with each other for all types of journeys, including car, cycling, walking and running. Find out more at https://www.joinmyjourney.org/.
