People’s Panel – Weston Central

Do you want to help shape the arts in Weston?

We are setting up a People’s Panel in Weston Central, as part of a project funded by Esmee Fairbairn, to involve local people in shaping creativity in the town through the many initiatives we have coming up – you might live/ work or love the area! You might be a mum or dad, nan or grandad, young or old, curious about the arts or wanting to make a difference to the community!

Would you like to be part of creating change and opportunities?

Culture Weston is a local initiative that places culture at the heart of Weston-super-Mare’s daily life and future growth.

We believe in Weston and its residents – we want to continue to illuminate and develop all that makes Weston ‘super’ by listening to and working with the local community. Culture can transform many different areas of life in Weston including health and well-being, regeneration and talent development.

We are looking to recruit six people to make up a People’s Panel – a group of people that will inform a people’s programme of activity and help us develop, shape and grow ideas for Weston, including projects to animate the High Street.

So, what are we looking for?

We are looking for people who live, study or work in Weston Central with a diverse range of skills and knowledge, views and backgrounds. We are committed to equality and diverse voices and ensuring all accessibility needs are met. We also welcome people with no previous experience of working in the arts. In fact, that intrigues us! We want to hear your thoughts and ideas so we can work together to transform the local community. We can’t do this without you!

What to expect?

Once the People’s Panel has been recruited, Culture Weston will meet with the participants four times a year for 2 hourly sessions, with each person being reimbursed for their time at each meeting – more details on applying

There will be a ‘go see fund’ to go and see live performance and training in areas you’re interested in. This could be: community leadership, fundraising, creative workshop leading etc. You get to decide as a group.

Feel free to ask us more about how this works.

Our first meeting will take place in the evening on the 21st of February in a Central Weston location.
