Chip Chat – Episode 2
Welcome to CHIP CHAT. Culture Weston’s first YouTube series, and the only show that puts the chips into the chats.
CHIP CHAT is a new YouTube series where professional artists, emerging artists and wider residents of Weston meet up over chips to chat culture and heritage. Part of the Historic England project ‘21st Century Shrines’ (one of many transformational activities underway in Weston’s Heritage Action Zone), CHIP CHAT puts local voices firmly and deliciously at the heart of cultural and creative developments in the town.
In this second episode, Megan is joined by artist, poet & facilitator Shagufta K Iqbal, and Weston’s very own poet and producer Sophie Shepherd. They chat about the current creative scene in Weston and what the future could hold, depending on the choices we make today. Hear more about current creative happenings and projects on the high street such as Tomorrow’s Voices, Grow Feral and the uprising that is Weston Artspace.
With sustainability as a hot topic for maintaining a brighter future for Weston, we hosted this episode in Weston’s fully sustainable Fish & Chip, shop, The Strange Catch. With a cameo role from Ryan the formidable fryer, we all make our wishes for Weston’s future, and one special wish came true before we had the chance to air this episode!
21st Century super Shrines is an exciting programme to create a series of innovative contemporary ‘shrines’ which will appear on the high street. These shrines may be permanent installations or live arts experiences that encapsulate the vitality and values of the local community. Creatively steering the project is lead artist Megan Clark-Bagnall in partnership with brilliant guest artists, emerging artists and the local community.
The project is managed by Culture Weston as part of the four-year-long High Streets Heritage Action Zones’ Cultural Programme, led by Historic England, in partnership with Arts Council England and the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The Cultural Programme aims to make our high streets more attractive, engaging and vibrant places for people to live, work and spend time.
