In Memoriam: Luke Jerram

In Memoriam is a temporary memorial for the public to visit and remember all that we have lost from the COVID-19 pandemic. The poignant flag installation, made from hospital bed sheets, is also made in tribute to the NHS health and care workers who have been working during the crisis. In the open air and in windy locations, the structure allows people to enter, contemplate and explore the artwork, whilst adhering to safety guidelines.

In Memoriam was commissioned by Culture Weston and University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust in 2020. It has since been experienced by communities internationally, before coming home to Weston.

“… it feels like, as a nation, we need to come to terms with everything we’ve been through. With funerals limited in their capacity and places of worship closed, it’s been hard for many people to grieve properly.  I hope this artwork will create a framed space and moment in time for personal and shared reflection.” Luke Jerram

Accessibility: the beach can be accessed via a slope next to the Grand Pier. Should you require a beach wheelchair, please contact hello@superculture.org.uk in advance.
