A Dance Response to In Memoriam

A premiere performance from Studio Wayne McGregor + dancers from Weston College, with local dancers

Dancers from the internationally acclaimed Studio Wayne McGregor, local dancers and dance students from Weston College have created a performative response to Luke Jerram’s In Memoriam artwork that explores how we relate to bodies – ours and others – following the experiences of the past 18 months. This premiere performance, which also involves wider members of the community – promises an elemental and cathartic dance experience.

Studio Wayne McGregor is the creative engine for choreographer and director Wayne McGregor CBE, and the home of his life-long enquiry into thinking through and with the body. With Wayne at its centre, this collaborative network includes world-class dancers, whose portfolio is hallmarked by international commissions across genres including dance, visual arts, film, theatre and opera.

Equally impressive are Studio Wayne McGregor’s specialised learning and engagement programmes which set out to embolden individuals in their own creative expression, underpinned by a commitment to mentoring and cultivating new artists. Plus inquisitive research enterprises that look across science, technology and the arts to provoke questions about some of the extraordinary phenomena of physical thinking. Dance at its most pioneering and exciting.

This piece will be performed to the soundtrack ‘A Moment in Time’, originally commissioned by Bristol Old Vic composed by Dan Jones and featuring the talents of Grant Marshall (Massive Attack), Stew Jackson (writer/producer Massive Attack), Adrian Utley (Portishead), trombonist Liz Purnell, poet Vanessa Kisuule and cellist Drew Morgan.

DATE: 24 September 2021

TIME: 3pm, 5pm, 7pm – the piece lasts approximately 15 minutes.

PLACE: In Memoriam, Weston Beach, along from The Grand Pier and by Revo Kitchen
