Speakeasy Poetry Evening

Theatre Orchard is hosting one of its popular online poetry events with poets Christina Thatcher and Bob Walton plus those from the community.

Fancy getting up and sharing your own poem? Speakeasy has an open mic slot, giving you the opportunity to spit bars, speak up, feel the love. You are invited to take to the Zoom stage for up to 4 minutes – just drop a line before Tuesday 6 Oct to book in

About the Guest Poets:

Christina Thatcher is a Creative Writing Lecturer at Cardiff Metropolitan University. She keeps busy off campus as Poetry Editor for The Cardiff Review, a tutor for The Poetry School, a member of the Literature Wales Management Board and as a freelance workshop facilitator across the UK.

Her poetry and short stories have featured in over 50 publications including The London Magazine, North American Review, Planet Magazine, The Interpreter’s House and more. She has published two poetry collections with Parthian Books: More than you were (2017) and How to Carry Fire (2020).

Bob Walton was born in Cardiff and has been coming to Weston since he was 6 months old… and that was a long time ago! His second collection of poems, ‘Sax Burglar Blues’, was shortlisted for Wales Arts Review’s ‘Best Book from Wales in 2018’. A member of The Spoke poetry group, he has done readings across the UK. He was Head of English at Worle School for 6 years and now teaches creative writing at Cardiff University. He has been involved with Theatre Orchard since it was set up, both as a board member and as an artist, and currently runs Chapter 1 creative writing group at Big Worle with The Write Box.
